Catching up with Communication Technology

These last few weeks have been very educational for me. I am a bit technophobic and thus a bit behind on the times. It all started when Misty invited me to visit her profile on Facebook. Well, to see her profile, I had to create one of my own. It just "snowballed" from there. Next thing I knew, I was IMing with friends from long ago. I haven't really IMed much before so it was a thrill to be keeping in touch without awkward telephone calls or lengthy e-mails. My next lesson came from Carrilyne and my 14 yr old neighbor, Vanessa. I have rarley seen Carrilyne "talk" on her phone, her fingers do the talking by texting. I have told her "someday" you will have to teach me how to do that. "Someday" came last week when she demanded my phone and showed me how to get started and has put up with my slow responses by letting me practice texting to her (THANKS GIRL, you are the best!). Then Vanessa taught me some tricks so I could do it faster, all the while giggling at me. I know, how lame having to have a 14 yr old teach you something. But, I am loving my new non verbal communication techniques!! Richard laughs at me because I get so excited. I was so proud that last night I was able to set up a meeting with 2 other people without saying a word! So cool! So that really leaves only one big communication techno thing left.... A BLOG! So here I am..... finally blogging. At first, I think I was resistant to getting a blog because "everyone else was doing it". And my mom always told me "if everybody else jumped off a cliff would you too?" Now it has just gotten to the point that it seems like I am the only person who is NOT blogging, and I really hate being left out! So I won't make any promises. Only that I will do the best that I can and hopefully, they all won't be as long as this!

It takes a while to catch the vision of this. And really, sometimes it's a little too much connectedness - like, gosh, is there still time for children? But if I had had this tool when I was younger, I think I might have felt less isolated, and thus been a little calmer in my own life.

Anyway - have fun!! Because you will.
