Upon entering the 'tween years there is another rite of passage that occurs in a young scout's life before advancing from Cub Scouts into Boy Scouts, that is earning the Arrow of Light.
Ashton received his Arrow of Light along with his friend Jared, at our Blue & Gold Banquet held at the end of last month.
No more goofy award cheers or building derby cars that may or may not win.
Nope. No more of that silliness.
He is now on to serious court of honors, camp outs, and eventually, Scout Camp; long with a multitude of other activities that no doubt will put gray in my hair and etch worry lines in my face. I wonder if I'm really ready for all this more grown up stuff.
Thank heaven we have a year of being a Tenderfoot to practice.
And I am glad to see he's not ready to grow up quite yet either.

Congrats to Ashton for such a great accomplishment…and congrats to his parents for helping him to achieve it!
I LOVED when my oldest was finally old enough to be through with pack meetings! I'm not sure which is more impressive - Ashton's Arrow of Light or your THREE YEAR service award?! Is that with cubs?? You GO, girl!
I'm the tour permit lady on our scout committee so I'm just embarrassed when they try to award me with anything.
LOL! I am looking at that first photo of Ashton and cracking up. "This is sooo beneath me......so borred with this already" Too funny!
No worries on the scout stuff, in a year he'll be with The SM! Good times are ahead. The SM will take right good care of Ashton. All you'll need to worry about is not putting your hands in his pants pockets when he gets home from campouts. Just stomp on the pants and throw them into the washer real quick and you'll be okay. :)

TF, He's a great kid, who had great leaders that made up for his lack-luster parents.
Gerb, I would actually have a break from Pack meeting until Nov. except now it is my calling. His Arrow of Light is more impressive; most of my 3 years service was as Primary Counselor who just oversaw everything. Not that hard really.
Rachel, That is exactly how he acts- "This is sooooo beneath me." Makes me cringe! I know the SM will take good care of him. And I will remember no pockets; just stomp and throw in the wash. Got it.
Chastina, He can really just be snobby can't he? He must get it from Richard's side. ;)
