Benjamin has dual citizenship between the USA and Canada. It is one of the things that make Ben special and unique in our family. In order to honor Ben's uniqueness and birth country, we try to observe some of Canada's holidays as well as our own. Plus, it is always fun to have another holiday to celebrate, right?
Since today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada we ate a different kind of "butterball" than the cute one pictured above. I spent the better half of today making Thanksgiving dinner complete with some of our traditional must haves like green bean casserole, orange jell-o salad, and Cran-Raspberry juice mixed with sprite and real raspberries. Of course, we also had turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, yams, buns (Canadian for rolls), and stuffing.
And pie... you can't forget the pumpkin pie.
Plus, it is a great excuse to eat pie!

You almost had company on your door step yesterday when I told your dad what you were doing! He said,"maybe we should just show up for dinner!" BUT, being the practical soul he is, we did not. We ate the left over chicken with Nathan, Haley & Hannah. Later he said, "You would have gone wouldn't you?" in a tone like he kind of wished we would have. Maybe next year! Loved the photos. How fun! I agree that we should give thanks more often.
Ashton was in quite the hurry to leave...no loitering yesterday; now it all makes sense.
Think you are right, we should celebrate those times when we feel thankful more often than we do - well, in speaking for myself.
Mom- I wish you guys would've come! The kids would've loved having you here and we had plenty of food. Pretty bad when pumpkin pie can't even overpower that practical side of him.
Next year...(sigh)
Chastina- Most definitely!
Guest- Yep, no loitering when there is pumpkin pie to be had.
I was thinking that it is pretty sad that we have to schedule days to be grateful and give thanks. It would be better if it could just become a state of mind. I guess that's something to work harder on.
wow!! What a woman to make two big feasts!! It looked really yummy! You and Kari should have got together!
And I am grateful to know you. Your blog is helping me at the moment make it the last twenty minutes until my next pain meds.....
Yes, we should have more days of celebrating thanksgiving. We've much to be thankful for.
